In August 2024, West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) will launch an Aviation Maintenance Technology program, thanks to the support and funding provided by the Paducah Area Community Reuse Organization. The college was awarded a $50,000 grant to support the creation of the new program, which is expected to have a positive impact on the local community and create employment opportunities.

Greg Wiles, PACRO Executive Director, and PACRO Board Chair Eddie Jones, along with WKCTC President Anton Reece and AMT Program Coordinator Bruce Glasco are advocates of the program and are dedicated to its success. They believe that the new program will play a significant role in creating employment opportunities and impacting the local community in a positive way.

With projections indicating a growing demand for aviation mechanics and a strong aerospace industry in Kentucky, the new program is expected to contribute to the economic growth of the region. According to these projections, there will be a need for 739,000 new aviation mechanics worldwide over the next 20 years. Kentucky ranks second nationally in aerospace-related exports, making it an ideal location for such a program.

WKCTC President Anton Reece believes that this grant will play a significant role in establishing the new program and contributing to economic growth in the region. He believes that it is essential for colleges like WKCTC to invest in programs that meet the needs of their communities while also supporting economic development. With this grant, he hopes to create an Aviation Maintenance Technology program that will provide students with valuable skills and prepare them for successful careers in this growing field.
