Zach Ertz in Talks with Washington Commanders Regarding Potential Signing

In 2023, veteran tight end Zach Ertz was a free agent and considering offers for the upcoming season. Peter Schrager of Fox Sports reported that Ertz is in talks with the Washington Commanders about potentially signing a deal with them.

Ertz had been on the Lions’ practice squad during the 2023 season but did not see any game time with the team. He originally joined the Cardinals in a trade from the Eagles in 2021 when Kliff Kingsbury was the head coach. Kingsbury was later fired after the 2022 season and has since taken a role as the Commanders offensive coordinator.

During the 2023 season, Ertz played in seven games for Arizona, recording 27 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown. The Commanders recently released Logan Thomas, leaving them with a need at the tight end position. Currently, John Bates, Cole Turner, and Armani Rogers are the remaining tight ends on the Commanders roster.
