Zion Williamson’s 40-point game cut short by leg injury in Pelicans’ defeat against Lakers in NBA play-in

Zion Williamson’s injury woes resurfaced during the Pelicans’ NBA play-in tournament defeat, with head coach Willie Green describing it as “left leg soreness.” Williamson had to exit the game against the Lakers in the final minutes despite putting up a 40-point performance. He will undergo imaging two days before the Pelicans’ next play-in game.

The injury occurred on a lay-up against Anthony Davis, after which Williamson could be seen limping and requesting to leave the game. It was a frustrating turn of events for the young star, who had been instrumental in leading the Pelicans to a comeback late in the game.

Despite Williamson’s efforts, the Pelicans ultimately fell short in the game. His absence due to the injury shifted the momentum, highlighting the importance of his presence on the court. This setback is particularly tough for Williamson, who has faced injury challenges throughout his NBA career.

The loss means the Pelicans will play in the final West play-in game against either the Warriors or the Kings, with a matchup against the Thunder awaiting the winner. On the other hand, the Lakers secured the No. 7 seed and will face the Nuggets in a rematch in their next game.
