Israel and its allies intercept 99% of over 300 drones and missiles launched by Iran

Israel woke up on Sunday feeling euphoric after successfully intercepting more than 99% of the drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles launched by Iran with the help of the US, UK, and Jordan. This unprecedented attack was in retaliation for the Israeli bombing that killed seven Iranian military commanders in Damascus two weeks ago. This marked the first direct attack by Iran against Israel after years of hidden warfare. The attack also involved Iran’s allies in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq, according to Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari.

Despite Iran’s attempt to cause significant damage, the attack resulted in no deaths except for a seriously injured girl and minimal material damage. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Israel’s interception and defense capabilities, expressing confidence that together they would emerge victorious. Iran considers the matter closed but warns of more severe action if Israel makes another mistake.

Following the attack, Israel reopened its airspace and deployed fighter-bombers that had intercepted the missiles. The Iranian retaliation was seen as an escalation beyond what was necessary to inflict significant harm. The situation now raises concerns about potential retaliatory actions from Israel and the involvement of the United States in the conflict.

After a phone call between President Biden and Netanyahu, the US expressed support for Israel’s defense but advised against retaliatory attacks on Iran. Meanwhile, in Iran, there is an atmosphere of normalcy, and the country remains prepared for potential further conflicts. The situation has brought the Middle East to a critical juncture, with the G-7 leaders set to coordinate a united diplomatic response.

The ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran have escalated significantly, with the recent events pushing both countries into uncharted territory. It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold and what further actions both parties may take in response to the recent attacks.
