Jenny Rissveds’ Stinging Counter-Attack Wins XCO Victory at MTB World Cup Mairiporã

Jenny Rissveds of Team 31 Ibis Cycles Continental emerged victorious at the Mairiporã round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup on Sunday, dominating the final lap of the elite women’s Cross-country Olympic (XCO) race to cross the finish line solo. Haley Batten and Savilia Blunk had initially formed a leading pair in the second lap but were soon joined by Rissveds, who eventually surged ahead in the last lap to secure a clear individual win. Reflecting on her race, Rissveds expressed satisfaction with her performance, noting her strategy to maintain patience and feel the flow on the trails throughout the event.

Rissveds finished 27 seconds ahead of Blunk, who claimed second place, while Batten crashed after being overtaken by the Swedish rider but managed to hold onto third position. Batten acknowledged that she may have been too eager and excited during the race, emphasizing the importance of executing her tactics effectively. Chiara Teocchi finished fourth after initially leading a group of five riders, with Jolanda Neff coming in fifth after navigating her way through the field. Evie Richards, who had a strong start but fell back during the race, ultimately finished in ninth place.

The upcoming round of the series is set to take place in Araxá, Brazil from April 19-21, offering another opportunity for riders to showcase their skills on the challenging course.
