A major alarm has been raised in the Australian city of Sydney after reports of a man stabbing several people in the Westfield shopping center in the Bondi district. The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper has confirmed four deaths, although New South Wales police have only confirmed that one man had been shot, possibly the perpetrator who was killed by police officers.
Eyewitnesses described dramatic scenes inside the building, with a group of around 20 young people seen fleeing via the escalators in the shopping center. Panic ensued as people shouted about a man stabbing others, leading to confusion and chaos among shoppers. Hannah Bodrozic, who was shopping at the time, recalled how employees closed shop shutters and then heard three shots, causing everyone to start screaming.
Police are currently conducting a search of the shopping center to determine if there are any additional attackers present. The incident has caused widespread concern and fear among residents in Sydney. Meanwhile, the motive behind the attack and the identity of the perpetrator are still under investigation.
